Quick Answers

Do I need a VIHJA membership?
No — membership is not required to compete at shows.
However, riders and trainers must be members to have points count toward year-end awards and to vote at the AGM.


When do I need to buy my membership?
Before 5:00 PM on the last day of the horse show for points to count.
If membership is purchased after this deadline, results from that show will not be included in year-end points.


Which shows require membership?
None.
You can compete at any show without a VIHJA membership.
Membership is only required if you want your points to count toward year-end awards.


How much is membership?
Individual memberships are $45
Family memberships are $70


How do I pay?
By credit card through the website after completing the membership form.
E-transfer is also available by contacting hello.vihja@gmail.com.


How long is membership valid?
January 1 to December 31 of the current year.
Memberships do not roll over based on purchase date.

About VIHJA

  • Vancouver Island Hunter Jumper Association.

  • VIHJA is a non-profit organization that supports the local hunter/jumper community by:

    • Promoting competitions, training, and education

    • Supporting shows and clinics

    • Tracking rider points and year-end awards

    • Giving back to the community through events and initiatives

  • Is VIHJA the same as SSITS?
    No. SSITS (Saanich Shows in the Sun) is a separate organization.
    VIHJA supports and tracks points at SSITS shows but is not financially affiliated.

  • VIHJA organizes the Annual Benefit Show.
    Other shows may count toward VIHJA points but are hosted by independent organizers.

Membership

  • No — membership is not required to compete at shows.
    However, riders and trainers must be members to have points count toward year-end awards and to vote at the AGM.

  • Membership must be purchased before 5:00 PM on the last day of the horse show for points to count.
    If membership is purchased after this deadline, results from that show will not be included in year-end points.

  • Can I purchase a membership after the show?
    Yes — however, points from that show will not be counted.

  • None. You can compete at any show without a VIHJA membership. Membership is only required if you want your points to count toward year-end awards.

  • VIHJA Points Shows are listed on the Events page and marked with a “VIHJA Points Show” label for easy identification.

  • Membership allows VIHJA to track results accurately, determine eligibility for year-end awards, and support programs, events, and community initiatives.

  • Individual memberships are $45. Family memberships are $70.

  • A family membership includes up to two adult parents/guardians and their junior children living in the same household.

  • A family membership is a great option for households with multiple riders or for parents who would like voting access at the AGM.

  • Do trainers require membership?
    Yes — trainers must be members for their riders’ points to count and to participate in VIHJA governance.

  • Do owners require membership?
    No — owners do not require membership.

  • Membership lists are available online and organized by membership number.
    Once your payment is confirmed, your membership number will be published on the list so it can be easily verified.

  • How long is my membership valid?
    Memberships are valid from January 1 to December 31 of the current year. They do not roll over based on purchase date.

  • No — memberships are non-refundable.

Payments & Forms

  • The membership form is available on the Membership page of the VIHJA website.

  • You can pay by credit card through the website after completing the membership form. E-transfer is also available by contacting hello.vihja@gmail.com.

Points & Participation

  • Make sure the show is listed as a VIHJA Points Show and that your membership is purchased before 5:00 PM on the last day of the show.

  • Results from that show will not be included in year-end points.

Board & Organization

  • No — VIHJA is run entirely by volunteers. All funds go back into the community through events, programs, and initiatives.

  • No — anyone can apply. You must be a VIHJA member in good standing to participate.
